Official Shax Championship Rulebook

Introduction

This Rulebook governs official Shax championships organized by Biciid Center.

Shax is a traditional Somali strategy game representing intellectual heritage. Championship play must reflect honor, fairness, and discipline.

Eligibility

Participants must:

• Hold an active Biciid Center account
• Meet ranking requirements
• Agree to the Fair Play Code
• Not be under suspension

Youth divisions may require parental consent.

Tournament Formats

Official championships may use:

• Round-robin
• Swiss system
• Knockout elimination
• Hybrid qualification stages

Format will be announced before tournament start.

Time Controls

Time formats may include:

• Classical — Extended time for deep strategic play
• Rapid — Moderate time for balanced competition
• Blitz — Fast-paced competitive play

Each player receives equal time allocation. Time forfeiture results in automatic loss.

Match Rules

Players must:

• Make moves within allotted time
• Not use external assistance
• Not communicate with others during live matches

Illegal moves:

• Must be corrected immediately
• Repeated illegal moves may result in forfeiture

Disconnections

If a player disconnects:

• A reconnection window applies
• Failure to return within defined time may result in loss

Repeated suspicious disconnects trigger review.

Scoring System

• Win = 1 point
• Draw = 0.5 points
• Loss = 0 points

Tie-break methods may include:

• Buchholz score
• Head-to-head result
• Sonneborn-Berger score
• Rapid playoff

Anti-Cheating Enforcement

All matches are monitored. Use of:

• External AI
• Analytical engines
• Third-party assistance

Results in immediate disqualification. Confirmed cheating may result in permanent ban.

Referee Authority

Tournament referees:

• Enforce rules

• Review irregularities
• Issue warnings or penalties

Their decisions are binding subject to formal appeal.

Appeals

Appeals must:

• Be submitted within 48 hours
• Provide clear reasoning
• Remain respectful

Appeals panel decisions are final.

• Open Champion
• Grandmaster (if rating criteria met)

Titles obtained through misconduct will be revoked.
